S16 Film Festival
To God Be The Glory
VISUAL IDENTITY DESIGN
ART DIRECTION
PRINT DESIGN
The S16 Film Festival, initiated in 2021 by The Surreal 16 Collective in partnership with A Whitespace Creative Agency, was established with the aim of curating an eclectic showcase of global cinema, particularly highlighting the works of indie-African filmmakers.
In 2023, the festival embarked on its third edition, inspired by the iconic closing chyron reminiscent of classic Nigerian cinema: 'To God Be The Glory.' with a thematic focus revolving around exploring notions of optimism and positivity through the medium of film.
I was once again entrusted with the pivotal role of conceptualizing the festival's visual identity and crafted accompanying collaterals to enrich the event's essence. The official logo was designed by the AWCA in-house team.
Conversations
A group of widescreen backdrops were crafted specifically for the conversation sections. The recurring grayscale motifs were strategically chosen to juxtapose against the festival's overarching themes of positivity and optimism.
Shapes Tell Stories
The neck tag designs echo the dizzying turmoil faced by the protagonists in each film, represented through repeating lines of geometric shapes. Each shape symbolizes a specific attendee group: the circle for crew, representing their all-encompassing role in production; the square for filmmakers, reflecting the shape of cameras; the star for all-access attendees, symbolizing unrestricted entry; and the microphone for press, highlighting their critical voice in covering the festival.
An Interactive Experience
I was also assigned the responsibility of creating a large spread to facilitate a storyboard interactive experience, based on the following synopsis:
"Eliagu (19) the son of a poor butcher from a small village in Benue State has dreams of one day becoming a successful dancer in the city of Lagos. Against his father's wishes, he runs away from home and travels to Lagos to follow his passion. Arriving at Lagos with very little money, he is quickly confronted with the harsh reality of the big city and ends up working as a security guard for a night club. Eliagu mixes with the wrong crowd and one day finds himself in jail. While in jail, he befriends a police officer, Edache, who happens to be from the same village. Edache pulls some strings and helps him return home. He is reunited with his family and happily embraces the family business. To God be the Glory."
Attendees were allowed to draw up their own storyboard that accurately told the story but in their own way.
Thank You
